The Project
As the Stand4All acronym implies, the project was based on the idea of standards and standardisation that address all special needs. This idea is also reflected in the principles of Design for All. Stand4All is about including people with disabilities and elderly people, not only in the content of standards, but also in the standardisation process itself.
Stand4All developed and implemented training courses for persons with disabilities and for members of standardisation committees. The project established an enlarged European network of CEN/CENELEC Guide 6 experts and accessibility experts in the field of standardisation. The Stand4All objectives were:
- to facilitate the participation of user organisations in the standardisation process;
- to increase the uptake of CEN/CENELEC Guide 6 in the field of standardisation;
- to prepare more users (representatives of organisations for persons with disabilities or elderly persons) for participation in European standardisation;
- to help standardisers take into account the needs of elderly persons and persons with disabilities.
The Stand4All consortium was established in October 2008 in response to a Call for Tender by the European Commission on Training of stakeholders on consultation on standardisation. The consortium consisted of seven partners from five different European countries (see below).
